ACHIS

Black Man Swag — the debut album, out now

Hip-hop with soul about Black male grace, legacy and the walk. Twelve tracks, three movements, one walk. Got it or ya don’t.

Listen

Black Man Swag

Ohio funk bass, Afrobeat drums, boom-bap, Rhodes keys, vintage soul and a piano ballad — held together by one thread: grace under pressure, legacy in motion.

Released October 31, 2026 · 12 tracks · 45 minutes · Tai Pan Publishing

The Story
“Black men don’t walk. They just seem to float around.”

That’s the first line on the record, and it’s the whole idea. Black Man Swag is one walk from start to finish. It opens with a strut down a sunset boulevard and ends standing in the London rain. In between, it goes back to where the walk began: a knock on the door on Eviction Day.

The record walks into the boardroom — “turn bricks into budgets” — then cuts straight back to a childhood eviction. You have to see where he started to understand the strut. The ballads close it, because once you’ve proven who you are, you’ve earned the right to be soft.

ACHIS is two men who spent their careers in rooms where they were often the only ones who looked like them — and wrote an album about how they carried themselves through it.

Why it’s a story

Two policy executives. One hip-hop album.

Off the mic, Jhay and Tai Pan have spent decades in energy policy, government and the boardroom — Duke Energy, Hitachi Energy, Shell, the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Brookings Institution. Black Man Swag is what they had to say about the walk that got them there.

Their song “Corporate America (From the Hood)” asks the question the whole record is built on: “If the corner store had a CFO, would it align?”

About ACHIS

ACHIS is Jhay & Tai Pan — hip-hop with soul about Black male grace, legacy and the walk.

Every lyric is their own. Their debut album, Black Man Swag, is a twelve-track journey in three movements. The Walk is arrival and hunger, from the title track’s “got it or ya don’t” to the boardroom bravado of “Corporate America (From the Hood).” The Roots cuts back to where it started — an eviction notice taped to the door, life lived between the margins, and a grandfather in Stacy Adams who taught them to stand tall. The Heart lets the armor down: a world on fire, time slipping away, a love that refuses to be a fashion, and a closing ballad in the London rain.

Musically the record moves from Ohio funk and Afrobeat to boom-bap, Rhodes-keys soul and piano. Lyrically it stays on one subject: what it means for a Black man to carry himself with grace when the room expects him to shrink.

“Swagger here isn’t arrogance. It’s inheritance.”
